You may remember I recently had cause to lampoon a particularly twee musical interlude from Murder Under Glass, which served as an ominous portent for what the show would evolve into after its 11-year hiatus from 1978-1989. There were some very silly moments in the classic era, too. Granted, many of the worst sins were from the comeback episodes from 1989-2003, but not all. Far from it! And some of its worst moments were very bad indeed. But love needn’t be blind and I don’t believe in the fawning viewpoint that the show was free from faults. This silliness went very close to being included, I can assure you! No one loves Columbo more than I.
